Young Widder Brown - Old Time Radio

Young Widder Brown

"... the age-old conflict between a mother's duty and a woman's heart."

One of the most enduring radio soaps of all time, Young Widder Brown premiered on June 6, 1938, and ran until June 22, 1956. Throughout its successful run it had only one sponsor and only one network, NBC, although the 15-minute show found itself in various time slots over the years.

Ellen Brown, the young Simpsonville, West Virginia widow and mother of 2 children, does her best to support her family by operating a tearoom. Despite her many trials, tribulations, and temptations, Ellen remains steadfast of purpose, working hard and doing her best to raise her children by herself. She carries on a seemingly ill-fated love affair with the man of her dreams as well as a few other romances along the way.
